Affordable and Social Housing

Through partnerships with BC Housing and other key stakeholders, Snuneymuxw members are offered suitable homes as allocations become available, on and off reserve.

Snuneymuxw members wishing to apply for the housing registry must complete either a paper or online form.

Members on the housing registry must ensure their contact information is up to date. Please reach out to the Housing Department with any changes, and on an annual basis at housing@snuneymuxw.ca or 250-740-2354.

Pest Control

Members living on reserve who are experiencing pest issues or believe that pests may be getting into their home can contact the Housing Department at housing@snuneymuxw.ca or 250-740-2354 for assistance.

Preparation for pest control:

Renovation Program

Members requiring renovations to their homes for accessibility reasons, or to improve living conditions, can apply for funding through Indian Services Canada (ISC). 

To express interest, for assistance with an application or for any questions, please contact the Housing Department at housing@snuneymuxw.ca or 250-740-2354.

Please note that applicants are required to meet specific requirements and criteria set out by ISC, and that wait times to access funding may be long. 

Asking to Build

Members interested in applying for a Ministerial Loan Guarantee (MLG) to secure financing for building, purchasing or renovating homes on privately owned land on reserve are asked to contact the Housing Department at housing@snuneymuxw.ca or 250-740-2354.

Maintenance

Any maintenance required for on reserve housing or rentals must be reported to the Housing Department in a timely manner.

Members can report maintenance requests to the Housing Department by contacting housing@snuneymuxw.ca or 250-740-2354.

All requests are submitted to the maintenance technician and triaged based on urgency.  

Elders who require maintenance assistance and who cannot have those needs met are encouraged to contact the housing department directly at 250-740-2354 (or after hours at 250-716-6548).

In an emergency (including fire, flooding, safety concerns, immediate risk to safety, damage or risk to the structure, or locked out/no access), members may call the emergency after-hours phone at 250-716-6548  

🚨 For fires or immediate risk to life, please call 9-1-1 before calling the after hours phone 

Tenant Support and Wellness

Support is available for members and Elders who:

  • have safety concerns within their home,
  • may require mobility aids, 
  • are experiencing concerns around excessive collecting/hoarding behaviours or
  • require assistance navigating BC Housing, MSDPR, Island Health Community Supports or other systems.
