SNUNEYMUXW FIRST NATION – 2019 ELECTION CANDIDATE INFORMATION—COUNCILLOR

As a nominee for the position of Councillor in the 2019 Snuneymuxw First Nation Election, there are some important details to understand and fulfill.

If you would like to reject or otherwise not accept the nomination, please contact the Electoral Officer to communicate your wishes.

If you would like to accept the nomination to stand as a candidate in the 2019 Election for the position of Councillor, you must provide the following to the Electoral Officer no later than 4:30pm on Friday November 1, 2019:

a) Submit a completed and signed Candidacy Acceptance Form;
b) Submit a completed and signed Declaration of Eligibility Form;
c) Submit a Criminal Record Check. One can be obtained in person at the local RCMP detachment. OR you may go to one of the following websites and request one online at one of the following sites:

Each Candidate may submit campaign literature that may include a photo and one paragraph bio and statement. In order to have the materials ready for inclusion in the mail-in ballot package, all candidate information must be received by the Electoral Officer no later than 4:30pm on November 1, 2019.

ALL CANDIDATE DOCUMENTATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE ELECTORAL OFFICER AND MAY BE SENT BY COURIER, EMAIL OR FAX NO LATER THAN 4:30PM ON NOVEMBER 1, 2019.

SNUNEYMUXW FIRST NATION NOTICE OF NOMINATION MEETING

Notice is hereby given that the Snuneymuxw First Nation have called an Election in accordance with the Snuneymuxw First Nation Electoral Code (2007) and Regulations (2011), for the purpose of electing five (5) Councillors to office for the ensuing four (4) year term.

IMPORTANT NOMINATION INFORMATION

TAKE NOTICE that in accordance with the Snuneymuxw First Nation Electoral Code (2007) and Regulations (2011) there are several provisions that MUST be satisfied in order for a nomination/seconder, and candidate eligibility to be approved by the Electoral Officer.

Electors eighteen (18) years of age and older as of the date of the Election may nominate or second and/or be nominated at the Nomination Meeting, and Vote in this Election – and shall form the Voters List.

An eligible elector may nominate/second another eligible elector for the office of Council by mail (in the form prescribed and available from the Electoral Officer) or in person at the Nomination Meeting.

Electors are reminded that the requirements for nominations and qualifications of candidates are provided for in the s.4.8 and Part 9 of the Code (2007) and s.5 of the Regulations (2011).

Specifically, a nominated candidate must provide to the Electoral Officer by 4:30PM on November 1, 2019:

1. Completed Candidacy Acceptance Form; 2. Candidacy Eligibility Form; and

3. A Criminal Records Check which may be obtained online at backcheck.net.

You may obtain a copy of the Snuneymuxw First Nation Electoral Code (2007) and Regulations (2011) by contacting the Electoral Officer, requesting a copy from the Band Administration office or by visiting the website address at the bottom of this notice.

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE All non-resident Electors who the Nation has addresses for will be mailed a mail- in nomination package (Regs s.5.4). Any other Elector who wishes to nominate a candidate by mail must request a package by contacting the Electoral Officer. Mail-in nomination forms must be received by the Electoral Officer no later than 6:00PM on October 29, 2019.

A copy of the voters list will be available at the Nation Administration Office for viewing and review. Any questions or issues arising from the voters list may be brought to the attention of the Electoral Officer for resolution – including adding or removing a name.
