Janitor – Administration Building

Job Description: 

Reporting to the Community Infrastructure & Housing Coordinator, the Administration Department Janitor is responsible for performing daily, weekly and monthly janitorial cleaning duties to ensure the cleanliness of the Administration Department.

 

Responsibilities:

Daily:

Cleaning of the Administration Department bathrooms, kitchens, offices and common areas including, but not limited to:

  • Disinfecting all toilets/urinals, sink basins, faucets and door handles;
  • Wiping down all hard surfaces, emptying and stacking the dishwashers and rinsing coffee urns;
  • Vacuuming floors and fans;
  • Emptying waste bins, replacing liners and disposing of garbage;
  • Ensuring windows are closed;
  • Replenishing supplies as required.

Weekly:

Cleaning of the Administration Department bathrooms, kitchens, offices and common areas including, but not limited to:

  • Wiping down door kicks, walls, partitions, cabinets, door handles, refrigerator & dishwasher interiors and garbage cans;
  • Washing floors and cleaning windows;
  • Advising Supervisor of any repairs or maintenance required.

Monthly:

Cleaning of the Administration Department bathrooms, kitchens, offices and common areas including, but not limited to:

  • Waxing and polishing vinyl floors.
  • Wet mopping ceramic and/or porcelain tiled areas.

 

Education and Qualification requirements:

Grade 12 graduation.
1-3 years of janitorial experience, preferably in a commercial environment.
Holder of Class 5 drivers licence with a clean driving record.
Possess WHMIS certification or be willing to obtain WHMIS certification.

 

Key Competencies:

Must provide criminal record check and be bonded or bondable.
Must be available to work on-call as required.
Ability to perform physical requirements of the position including repetitive lifting and bending and working with cleaning chemicals.
Ability to exercise good judgement, show initiative and be proactive.
Willingness to work in potentially unpleasant working conditions when handling garbage.
