Job Description: 

The Snuneymuwx First Nation has a unique opportunity for an experienced Chief Financial Officer who is technically astute, has strong leadership skills and a sound knowledge of Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards. Snuneymuxw First Nation is located in the centre of Coast Salish territory on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island.  We have a total registered population of 1,771 members and is a member of the Douglas Treaty.  Snuneymuxw First Nation is an Indian Band as defined by the Indian Act.  The First Nation manages various program offered by Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and other funding agents to benefit its members.  Snuneymuxw First Nation also represents members in the negotiations of treaty settlements and specific land claims.

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the overall financial management of the Snuneymuwx First Nation, and upholding statutory duties as set by the Chief and Council. The CFO is responsible for risk management, the supervision, planning, direction and control of the Finance Department (team of two accounting staff), and supports the management team in budgeting, financial reporting and monitoring. The CFO provides strategic financial and policy advice to the Director of Operations, Chief and Council and other First Nation-owned entities.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/CERTIFICATION
• Professional Accounting Designation or equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience
• Advanced level of MS Excel
• Corporate and Auditing experience an asset

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of provincial and federal programs and policies
• Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable transportation
• Bondable
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Detail oriented
• Ability to work effectively, efficiently and perform well under pressure
• Ability to write clear and concise reports
