On-Call Maintenance Workers (several positions) March 2015
Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, the On-Call Maintenance Worker will assist in ensuring all community buildings and infrastructure are regularly maintained and simple repairs to homes and community buildings on Snuneymuxw land are conducted.
Primary Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) assisting CI&H staff with:
Identifying and documenting SFN’s sewer, gas, water and other service lines and valves on SFN infrastructure drawings, as instructed.
Assisting with approved emergency repair work including carpentry, construction, minor plumbing, drainage and water/sewer and electrical maintenance.
Completing all items identified in the SFN Monthly Maintenance Schedule in addition to assisting with renovations, construction, plumbing and electrical needs.
Inspecting the storm water drainage system and sewage collection system for problems and reports issues as required.
Assisting with major SFN projects including construction of new buildings and water line installations and repairs or facilitates repair of culverts, ditches, water lines, pump stations, sewer lines and lift stations for SFN communities.
Ensuring all fire hydrants are inspected and serviced and conducts scheduled maintenance.
Brush cuts and ensures fire hydrants, ditches, street signs and stop signs are clear of debris and all signs are firmly fixed in the ground and standing.
Assisting with and responding to security alarms and reports any theft or damage to SFN facilities, as required.
Assisting in set up and tear down of equipment for SFN events and participates in any work related training, workshops or any other educational programs in order to maintain required position qualifications.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Grade 12 graduation.
1-3 years’ experience in carpentry and maintenance repairs (including the ability to conduct minor plumbing and electrical work).
Possesses and maintains Water and Waste Water certifications are considered an asset.
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
First Aid Level 1.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Follows instructions and is physically fit.
Strong organizational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritize work flow.
Ability to exercise good judgement, show initiative and be proactive.
Understanding of hydrants, water and sewer, and pump stations is considered an asset.
