QQS Updates Oct 2017
Dear Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw, Parents & Guardians,
Happy fall everyone! I hope that you are all doing well.
At our school we are going through some changes. We have our Kindergarten/Grade One Teacher Mrs. Kuzminski leaving us on Friday, October 27th, 2017. Mrs. Kuzminski is going on her next journey to work at School District #79 as a Teacher On Call. Mrs. Kuzminski is a new mother and feels that she needs to devote more time to her daughter at this time. She is sad to leave our school, but needs to move on so that she can spend more time with her daughter. We wish Mrs. Kuzminski the best of luck on her new journey!
Right now there is a teacher shortage in BC. When I checked the “Make A Future” job site for educators I found this:
“Teacher Hiring Spree, 400 Teaching Jobs Now Available in BC Schools!”
So knowing that there are no teachers left in the hiring pool we had to think outside of the box.
We are doing our best to make sure that all of our students have the best learning environment possible. We have our education assistants working hard to support the students and teachers in each class.
This is what our daily schedule looks like for both our Primary & Intermediate students.
QQS Schedule
8:15am to 8:30am – EA’s Outside (All EA’s) & Mona (Breakfast Program)
8:30am to 8:40am - Teachers Outside supervising on the playground
EA’s move to their reading station for Readwell/Reading Mastery
NOTE: Monday Schedule will include PE & Music times.
I hope that by sharing our schedules with you trying to let you know what is happening here at the school gives you a better idea of how we are doing our best to educate all of our students here at QQS.
I hope that you enjoy looking at the pictures that we have submitted for this newsletter too! We had Mr. Boon’s, Mr. Joe’s & Mrs. Kuzminski’s classes go to the McNabb’s Corn Maze & pumpkin patch. We had Mrs. Rodgers & Bex’s classes go to the Tiger Lily Farm. The students all had a great time! They all had a chance to pick their own pumpkin on the day of their trip!
We also received 100 tickets for a Nanaimo Clippers game on Sunday, October 22nd, 2017. This was for what they call a “cheer off”, where schools compete against each other to see who could be the loudest. We had some students, parents and staff attend the game on Sunday, but unfortunately we did not win the “cheer off”. We did have lots of fun!
Reminder to parents to dress up your child on Halloween day, Tuesday, October 31st, 2017! We will be going trick-or-treating at the SFN Administration Office, SFN Health Centre & SFN Daycare. Teachers all have fun activities planned for each of their classes too!
If you ever have any questions about our school please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail or phone at the school.
Yours in Education,
Roxanne Harris
