QQS Updates Feb 2017
Dear Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw,
I’ skwayul Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw. (Good day Snuneymuxw people)
It is always great to have this opportunity to report out to all of you about what we have been up to at QQS.
On February 15th and 16th, 2017 we had Rob Gowan-Smith the Coordinator of Career Options Elementary Options from the Nanaimo Ladysmith come to our school to build bird houses with all of our beautiful children. This was an opportunity for our children to have an opportunity to try out a little bit of carpentry!
On Feb 20th & 21st, 2017 our staff had a Professional Development Day at QQS. During these two days we made shawls. The first set of shawls that we made were a class set for our students to use during cultural performances. The second set of shawls or wall hangings that staff made were for themselves. We were really fortunate to have Virginia Joseph from Saanich come in to help us learn how to make the shawls. We also had Florence James from Penelakut and Elder in Residence for Vancouver Island University come in to give us some “snawuyath” (teachings) and guidance.
February 22nd, 2017 was Pink Shirt Day, this day we all wear pink to unite ourselves against bullying. I ordered all of our QQS students and staff pink t-shirts to wear for this day. We all stood in UNITY against bullying!
February 24th, 2017 we have two of our classes going up to John Barsby Community School to join them in welcoming the “Home Town Heroes”.
February 24th, 2017 we have three of our classes going to Newcastle Island for a great big “pit cook” experience hosted by Snuneymuxw First Nation. This will be a great cultural experience for all of our students who are attending.
Please have a look at our QQS calendar to see which events are up and coming at QQS.
Reminder that we have Spring Break from March 20th to 31st, 2017 during this time QQS will be closed.
There is a lot of learning going on at our school all of the time. We always look forward to seeing our classes full of beautiful learners. We love to ensure that they are receiving the BEST EDUCATION possible!
Please remember that we are focusing on ATTENDANCE all year long. We need our students to be at school every single day of the year. If our students are here, we can teach them what they need to know in order to be successful in moving forward!
I look forward to seeing the days get longer as SPRING approaches. The sun is coming out more! Have a great day everyone!
If you have any questions, concerns or ideas about how WE can make QQS THE BEST SCHOOL, please do not hesitate to stop by and see me or call me at the school.
Huy’ceep’ca, (Thank you all)
Roxanne Harris, Principal
