QQS Updates April 2018
Dear Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw, Parents & Guardians,
Spring is here! It is nice to see longer days and a little peak of sunshine coming through.
As we look forward to the last couple months of school. It is important to remember that our last two months are filled with learning and everyone working hard to make it to their learning goals by the end of June 2018.
Congratulations goes out to 3 of our students who won the Crime Stoppers Poster Contest! The students who all won $100 dollars each from Crime Stoppers were:
Shaughnessy Bigchild
Liam Harness
Kayla Peters
As a school we received a contribution of $300.00 from Crime Stoppers to go towards our programming here at QQS. We are proud of all of our students who entered the poster contest! Way to go kids! Keep on reaching for the stars!
We had our First Nations Parent Club Meeting on April 11th, 2018 @ 4:30pm-5:30pm
We talked about the importance of daily attendance. Why it is important for all children to be present at school as much as they can.
We also watched a short video on attendance. We also talked about the NEW QQS school.
We did a virtual walk through our new school. We looked at the plans for our new school.
We talked about our fundraising efforts that will support a new playground for our NEW QQS!
Our first fundraiser is going to be a Flea Market at QQS on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 from 12:00 (noon) to 3:00pm. (Donations are being accepted!)
Our next scheduled First Nation Parent Club meeting will be on Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. Please feel free to join us! We always have dinner and childminding provided! Plus, we have door prizes too!
What is happening at the end of April:
April 20th, 2018 – Professional Development Day (Staff will be attending the First Nations Schools Association Conference)
April 23rd, 2018 – Earth Day Community Clean-up Day! Everyone is welcome to help us clean up Snuneymuxw First Nation traditional territory!
April 26th, 2018 – QQS Grades 1-3 Cultural Day at SFN Longhouse
April 27th, 2018 – QQS Grades 4-7 Cultural Day at SFN Longhouse
April 28th, 2018 – FLEA MARKET FUNDRAISER AT QQS FROM 12:00pm – 3:00pm
April 30th, 2018 – Assembly at 1:10pm in Peter’s Class
What is happening in the month of May:
May 1st to 4th, 2018 – CAT Testing (Parents please make sure that your children are at school for these important tests)
May 8th, 2018 – 9:00am Author Darlene Gait will be at QQS
May 10th, 2018 – 9:00am Author Kim Soo Goodtrack will be at QQS
May 16th, 2018 – FIRST NATIONS PARENT CLUB MEETING 4:30pm to 5:00pm
May 21st, 2018 – VICTORIA DAY – NO SCHOOL
May 22nd to 24th – Benchmarking
May 31st, 2018 – Assembly at 2:10 in Peter’s class
Attendance for our last two months remains on the top of our priority list. We are working hard to make sure that every student is here for the important learning that is taking place. We are excited about seeing the finish line (End of the school year, June) and the possibilities of the future ahead of us!
We are going to start a new attendance “Weekly Perfect Attendance Prize” program! Students will all have a chance to win a prize! Students to need to make sure that they are on time every day and they can’t leave school early. Their attendance for the week has to be 100%. Every Friday they will have a chance to pick a prize from the “PRIZE CHEST”! How exciting is this! So please encourage your child, children, grandchildren, to come to school every day! This program starts on Monday, April 30th, 2018.
We will continually strive for only the BEST for all of our students here at QQS. The students are continuously showing us their curiosity, bright ideas and inquisitive minds! The future looks bright here in Snuneymuxw First Nation!
