Kwumut Lelum Child and Family Services (KL) and Lalum'utul' Smun'eem Child and Family Services (LS) were pleased to host an exciting two day Soccer event in partnership with the Vancouver WhiteCaps FC. The opening ceremony took place at beautiful Transfer Beach in Ladysmith. Thank you to Stzuminus First Nation for allowing us to host the event on their Traditional Territory.
The Snuneymuxw and Tzinquaw dance groups were on hand to welcome and walk with the Offical WhiteCaps team to start the evening off. The "Evening of Champions" began with a prayer and then words from Kevin Frenchy who sits on the KL board of directors, followed by the Mayor of Ladysmith Rob Hutchins. Inspirational speakers included Andy O'Brien, Jay Demerit, Ashley McIvor and Martin Rennie. The evening came to and end with defensemen Jordan Harvey playing the guitar to American Idol Kim Caldwell belting out tunes.
Many were on hand for the Martin Rennie Coach Clinic. The 2 day event was open to 9 Nations from Qualicum Beach to the Malahat. KL and LS did an amazing job.
Thank you to the WhiteCaps who are truly professionals. Our kids were so fortunate to attend and meet these inspirational players. The message was clear: persevere, never give up no matter how hard things in life may get. Thank you to everyone that was involved to making this a successful event the children will cherish their memories!
