QQS First Day of School

Date and Time:
Wed. Sep. 6/17 08:15 AM to 02:45 PM

Dear Snuneymuxw Mustimuxw, Family & Friends,

As the principal of Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh Community School, I want to say a big welcome back to school! I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with the highly qualified and dedicated staff, the wonderful students, and the supportive parents.

This will be my third year as Principal of Qwam Qwum Stulwixwulh Community School, and I am thrilled at the opportunity to engage in the educational process together. The elementary years are critical times of development for students and families alike, and I look forward to working with all of you to make this year successful. I am a lifelong educator who brings a firm commitment to students and families as well as a love of learning and problem solving.

Our staff is committed to working with students and their families as a team. The rigorous curriculum that we offer at QQS follows the Ministry of Education guidelines. Our goal is to see each child succeed!

Our school has identified that our “Greatest Area of Need” is our attendance. We feel that if the students are in their desks everyday, we can in turn teach the beautiful children the curriculum as we have planned.

Research shows that parental involvement in a child’s education benefits the child. These benefits are higher levels of academic achievement, positive attitudes, and greater maturity and responsibility. Because the benefits are so solid, I urge you to take part as much as possible in the life of our school. It does take an entire village to raise a child.

We welcome all our families back to another exciting, entertaining, fun filled year of learning at QQS! Always contact your child’s teacher first with any concerns you may have. Please know that I am available to meet with you in person or talk to you over the telephone to discuss any concerns you may have. As the instructional leader of this school I am responsible for all decisions made in the best interest of all of our students.

Parents can look forward to seeing the following being sent home on Thursday, September 7th , 2017:

  1. The 2017/2018 QQS Code of Conduct (Needs to be signed & returned to QQS)
  2. The  QQS Calendar for 2017/2018 school year
  3. QQS Parent Handbook for 2017/2018

Please note that one of the changes that we will be doing this year at QQS is that we are going to ask the parents to send packed lunch with their child daily. In the past we have had a lunch program at QQS. We will have peanut butter and jam on hand for students who don’t bring a lunch. Nobody will ever have an empty stomach at QQS. We thought that it would be nice for students to pack their lunches. This could be great learning experience for everyone! We will embark on this journey together!

We will still run our breakfast program from 8:15am to 8:35am daily. Our program includes cereal and toast. Students will be able to have breakfast daily Monday to Friday!

We are also excited that we will be doing the Terry Fox Run again this year on September 28th, 2017. So please help our children “train” for this! We aim to make this a fun learning event. We will be doing laps around the Princess Royal soccer field starting at 12:30pm.

QQS Family Barbeque will be on Friday, September 22nd, 2017. There will be an early dismissal at 11:15 on this day. This will give all of our staff the opportunity to meet and greet the parents and students who come in for the QQS Family Barbeque.  We are excited to meet the parents and start our school year off in a good way!

I always have an open door policy. So please come and see me when you get a chance! I would love to meet all of the community members, parents, friends and family! My goal is to make this year a successful one for all!

Yours in Education,

Roxanne Harris
