Social Development Policy Changes as of January 1, 2018
Department of Indigenous Service Canada formerly known as INAC or DIA have made these policy changes as follows section 3.1 of the social development policy manual which is posted on the SFN web site.
To All Social Development Employable Clients: effective Jan 1, 2018 you will be required to search for work in order to qualify for income assistance each month. A form is available at the reception desk at SFN to complete before next income assistance distribution Jan. 24th 2018. You will be required to complete and sign the form provided before the next cheque issue day.

Social Development News
There has been a rate increase of a $100. per month. This is for all Income Assistant clients, PWD and Hardship Assistance clients effective October 2017.
We are also awaiting confirmation on earned income increase as well!
Welcome Bridget White!
Bridget White is a Snuneymuxw First Nation member, who is currently employed part-time in the Social Development Department as an Administrative Assistant. Bridget has over twelve years’ Administration/Community Work experience working with First Nations Organizations.
Prior to working with SFN Social Development, Bridget worked in SFN Finance Dept. for a post-secondary summer job position, ‘Cooperative Education Coordinator’ at Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh School, ‘Nurse Administrative Assistant’ at Inter-Tribal Health Authority, and she also worked for eight years as ‘Community Health Representative’ at Snuneymuxw First Nation Health Centre. She has done some short term work for Snuneymuxw in the past in Social Development as Band Social Development Worker.
Bridget is currently working towards her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and is 2nd year standing in the Social Service Diploma Program at Vancouver Island University.
She has five handsome sons and two wonderful grandsons. She is delighted to be working for the community and looks forward greeting you.

Social Development Spring Updates
Free gym passes are available! Just sign your name under the Social Development clientele sign-in sheet at the Admin office reception. Your children are welcome to attend according to the age requirement for the gym.
Drop-in for clients is Mondays and Thursdays.
Wednesdays are for appointments only.
No clients are seen on Fridays.
The Cultural LifeSkills worker is here for you Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please make appointments with her for resume help.
Please note that if Social Development doesn’t have current Hydro bills, AANDC (INAC) will not accept our payment and claw back this money. We need current Hydro bills every month.
Once again, per capita land claims will not affect any SA clients income assistance cheques. This was effective Oct. 1, 2016 when AANDC (INAC) approved their policy on distributions.
