Housing Department Updates Sept 2016

Sep. 23/16

Welcome Timara White

My new position is working within the Housing Department as an Intern. I am a member of Snuneymuxw First Nation and grew up within the community.

I am involved in the community through work, volunteering, and recreational activities. Over the spring and summer I worked at the Health Centre as a summer student and became a part of the Safety and Justice Committee. I continue to volunteer on the committee as a youth representative and look forward to helping with the development of the new committee. As for recreation activities I canoe pull with Proud Mary/Sweet-Ann Canoe Club. We train and race war canoe with other first nation communities and we also compete on outriggers in many different places throughout the year.

I am excited to be a part of the Housing Department and I look forward to learning, gaining experience, and helping out within the housing area. I will be primarily working with tenant compliance.

This means that I will be working with tenants to fulfill their tenant obligations.

For example:

· Keeping up with their monthly rental payments and/or arrears payment agreements;

· Proper maintenance of SFN CMHC Social Housing units, both inside and outside the residence;

· Ensuring that major issues are reported to housing in a timely manner;

· Proper permissions for additional tenants or pets+-

I encourage those that may have arrears to make an appointment with me to discuss payment options. It is important for the entire community that SFN approved housing policies and procedures are followed.  Please call me at 250-740-2300.

Attention—An important notice for all Band Rental & CMHC Social Housing Tenants

This is a reminder of a couple terms within the SFN tenancy agreement that must be followed by all tenants. Please see the following as per the agreement:

A pet is only permitted with the written consent of the Landlord

The landlord reserves the right to prohibit or restrict pets in size or kind

The tenant is responsible to clean up after pet(s) and keep the Premises and yard clean and sanitary

The Tenant is liable for damage caused to the Premises and yard by a pet(s) and shall reimburse the Landlord for any cost to repair such damage

· The tenants must place all garbage and recycling in proper containers for pick up, Garbage and recycling must not be put out before 5am or after 8 am on the day of collection. The Tenant may be charged a fine of $25 for failure to comply with this subsection. Housing will use reports from the infrastructure staff to support any fines charged.

· The Tenant agrees to upkeep the exterior property of the Premises. This includes mowing the lawn, keeping the walkways clear of any obstruction, keeping the property free from junk/garbage/uninsured vehicles.

· The Tenant shall not make any alterations, improvements, renovations or additions to the premises without the written consent of the Landlord

Please be advised that the Residential Tenancy Agreement will be followed. We encourage those tenants that have pets to ensure they have proper written permissions.
