Mental Health and Addictions
The goal of the Mental Health & Addictions programs is optimum health for all Snuneymuxw children, youth and adults. Mental Health provides prevention, intervention, treatment after care and follow-up services.
The objectives are:
- Reduce alcohol and other substance abuse;
- Empower families to address root causes of poor mental health;
- Support parents and children to improve their relationships and develop stronger coping skills and to reduce stress.
This department provides mental health counseling for individuals, groups and families through the Community Wellness Counselor and therapeutic services that are contracted with office-based clinical counselors, off reserve.
It also includes community activities and events such as the Celebration of Life, Aboriginal Day celebrations and National Drug and Alcohol Awareness Day.
Our Community Addictions Counselor provides individual and family counseling concerning alcohol and substance use.
Assistance is provided to individuals and couples for admission to residential addictions treatment centres and House of Healing residential school healing programs
