SFN’s Administration Staff Open House welcomed community members to the first ever Open House in Chief & Council Chambers on February 19th.
Human Resources Coordinator, Michele Hillier, said they were “inspired by the Health Centre which hosts such a very popular Open House every year. We wanted to let community members know about the opportunities here and the requirements for some of the jobs in Administration.” The event was tied into the Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) and split into the eight different CCP areas:
- Health,
- Social Development
- Land and Infrastructure
- Economic Development
- Education
- Environment
- Governance and Administration
- Culture and Traditions.
The display boards were a popular aid for visitors. The boards were mounted with photographs and captions describing the people who work in Administration and the jobs they do. The display boards were put together by SFN’s Employment Team - Wanda, Nancy and Michele. The Comprehensive Community Boards were developed by the consulting firm of HB Lanarc. They reviewed the first 100 community replies to the CCP’s series of community surveys and used them to list priorities.
There were approximately 75 - 100 people for the excellent supper which was cooked by Sandra Penn. Michele estimates that about 100 - 125 people came from 1.00 pm until closing at 7.00 pm. “We were very happy with the response from the community,” said Michele. “We loved the fact that Dr. Ellen, or Auntie Ellen White, said it looked like a museum, and we loved that people came back for supper and to look at the boards, that quite a few of the Elders came and gave their feedback, and that community members spent some serious time reading and giving their opinions.” Chief Wyse was away at meetings all day but was able to come in the evening and then stay until the end. In April, there will be an “Ideas Planning Workshop.” Staff are hoping for an equally good response from the community as the consultants will be working directly with members about future plans in terms of land and buildings.
