PRINCIPAL'S NEWSParent Teacher InterviewsThe first report card of the year for students in Kindergarten through Grade 3 will be given out during parent teach interviews which take place November 25 – 27, 2009. Students in those classes will be dismissed at 11:15 on Wed. Thurs. and Friday so teachers can meet with all families. A letter will be coming home soon from your child's teacher with conference times and options. The teacher will make every effort to accommodate work and transportation challenges. It is important that teachers are able to meet with parents to discuss the strengths and challenges of each child. it also gives parents a chance to ask questions of the teacher and to share any concerns they may have. Some parents find this a stressful time: we sometimes get nervous too! Please know that our goal is to work with families as a team to help each child reach their potential. We look forward to seeing you there!
I would like to introduce our 3 new staff members. Many of you will know them, but they are new to us, and we are excited to have them on board! First is Mary Wyse. Mary is currently working in the afternoon K4, (preschool) room, however, her job may expand into the other classrooms.
H1N1 UpdateWe are busily washing hands here at school, cleaning door knobs nightly, and disinfecting tables & toys. We are currently experiencing a ‘flu like virus, but to date we have no confirmed cases of H1N1. We appreciate the support of the families in keeping sick children home. Thank you!Our other concern is that all emergency contact numbers be current. Please call Ms. Terena Ross at 250-754-3033 to update your contact numbers or stop by the school. Again, thank you for your help. Symptoms of what COULD BE H1N1 are:

Qwam Qwum Stalicut News September 2009Dear Parents,We would like to welcome everyone to the new school year. While we are excited to be starting up again, we too have been affected by the losses in the community over the summer and know that some of our students may be going through tough times. Please do not hesitate to come and see your child’s teacher if we can be of any assistance. This year’s school calendar is included in this issue. Please keep it for future reference. The bus will be picking up and bringing children home to Cedar again this year. Due to our high numbers, we are unable to pick up or drop students at their homes this year. The exception will be the drop off of the morning preschool children, who will be taken to their home. The bus will be making specific stops for pick up and drop off.
If there is a change in your child’s after school bus routine, please notify the school prior to 2:00 p.m. that day. You may either call the school or send a note with your child that morning. The end of the school day is a very confusing time, so we need to have the children sorted out by 2:00 p.m. The Breakfast Club will be starting on Wednesday, September 9th. Students are welcome to go and have a good breakfast before coming to school. Bus students can be escorted to the Breakfast Club when they arrive. Students are not to be at school prior to 8:25 a.m. as there is no supervision available until then. Teachers and classroom aides are busy preparing for the day. School dismisses at 2:30 p.m. Meet the Teacher night will be Wednesday, September 16th from 5-6:30 p.m. Dinner will be provided and families are welcome! We will send home a notice reminding parents later in the week. We hope that your child has a wonderful first week at school and we are excited to be back. Please feel free to contact me or your child’s teacher at any time.
