Comprehensive Community Planning Process – Its Time to Get to WorkFirst of all, I would like to raise my hands in thanks to the many community members who took the time to participate in Journey Snuneymuxw over the past two years. Your meetings in the Health kitchen have not gone unnoticed by those of us in leadership who now have to roll up our sleeves and get to work creating a landuse plan for our community. Members of Chief and Council and our senior staff are now starting our own ‘journey’ – making land use and planning decisions that will effect all of us in the years and decades ahead. As we move ahead with this work, we will be mindful and very appreciative of the two years of volunteer efforts that have been made by our Comprehensive Community Planning Steering Committee. You have put the many things that make up our Nation under your microscope. You have learned many things and have provided your opinions and feelings about what makes us a Nation and a People. Not only have you guided the CCP process thus far, but you have informed us and inspired many on council and staff to think about the bigger picture in the decisions that we make. I raise my hands in thanks to you. I would like to recognize what is really at the heart of the CCP process and our community as a whole. You were not paid to attend two years of meetings. You regularly attended because the Snuneymuxw of the past, present and future is important to you. You gave willingly of your time and shared your thoughts so that the community will benefit. It is efforts such as yours that will ensure that the Snuneymuxw People will prosper in the future. Volunteer efforts like yours will keep us strong and heading in the right direction.
