Mayor Ruttan's Broken Word

Mayor Ruttan on February 6 speaking about a potential water-sharing deal between the City and Harmac:

"We are not in any way jeopardizing the relationship we have with Snuneymuxw"

"Before anything is agreed to in a contractual form we will sit down with Snuneymuxw and get their consent and approval."

Mayor Ruttan on March 5:

“We do not require their [Snuneymuxw's] consent before we sign an agreement"

The problem for the City is that the first statement on February 6 properly recognized the importance of a relationship with Snuneymuxw and the reality of the Treaty of 1854.  And now the City has broken the relationship.
